Control and Timing Operator: Whistler Sliding
Centre (Whistler)
August 2015 - April 2016
The Whistler Sliding Centre was used in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics in the Luge, Bobsleigh, and Skeleton events. It is now used for training athletes from around the world and hosting competitions and world cup events. In this role, I was in the control room along with several complex timing, recording, video, radio, scheduling, and audio equipment. We used this technology to ensure the safety and availability of the track, announce any crashes, and record timing for each sled. During events and competitions, we had to work with race officials, ensure that all equipment was working correctly, work with the track crew to ensure the track was safe and ready for sliding, announce each slider coming down the track, record the timing and video of the run, and keep in constant radio communication with the track crew and race officials. I also had the opportunity to take 'bob school' and became a bobsleigh pilot and train among world-renowned athletes.
